Donation to Bendheim Cancer Center at Greenwich Hospital
February 2, 2017
After sending the basket off to Roswell, I wanted to pick somewhere closer so that I could go and drop the basket off myself. I had already donated to most hospitals close by, but I had not gone as far as Greenwich or Stamford, so I decided to do both! I got both baskets ready at the same time. I also added a new step for preparing the baskets. Now, I finish off each basket by wrapping them in cellophane. It kind of pulls everything together and makes it look nicer, I’m definitely a fan! At Greenwich Hospital, I first got in contact with Maria Marini. She was so excited to hear from me and said great things about the organization. She was extremely helpful in helping me set up a donation and confirming that Greenwich was interested. She told me that when I was ready to donate I should reach out to Irene Piazza, a clinical specialist of oncology. She was so happy to meet with me and so flexible with times. One day after school, I drove up to Greenwich. It’s not that far of a drive but it’s windy and unfamiliar, and I had a difficult time navigating. People really are not that understanding when you have no idea where you are going so that aspect of it was a little rough. When I got to the Bendheim Cancer Center, Ms. Piazza greeted me so warmly and talked glowingly about the basket. I then went down the hall to meet with the rest of the nurses that worked in the chemotherapy suite. They were all so kind and so nice to talk with. Everyone agreed to take a photo with the basket which was so nice, considering a lot of people never like to be in photos. After that, they all hugged me and said thank you and promised to let me know how the patients liked them! The next donation will be at The Carl and Dorothy Bennett Cancer Center at Stamford Hospital.
