The fall of senior year has been beyond busy. College application writing and visiting, on top of school, and my extra curricular activities like soccer and NCL, have been so time consuming and physically and mentally draining. I have had such a hard time trying to find some quiet moments to set up the donation with the Norma F. Pfriem Cancer Institute at Bridgeport Hospital. With the money left over from my last fundraiser, I wanted to pick a place that was close to my community and somewhere that the patients would be extra excited because they also really needed the scarves. I chose Bridgeport Hospital because I have worked with them in the past through NCL, making colorful hospital blankets and greeting cards with my peers, but wanted to give a little extra. I contacted Ms. Kimberly Bielecki, the Oncology Nurse Navigator at the cancer center. In her email response, she expressed how she was immediately drawn to the images of me with various hospital staff all over the northeast, praised the project for its fabulousness, and expressed her interest in setting up the donation! I was delighted that she seemed to be as passionate as me for the project. Ms. Bielecki was so kind and patient with me when it took me longer than I would have liked to schedule the donation because of my crazy senior year fall schedule. When I finally got to make the donation at the Norma F. Pfriem center, I met up with Ms. Bielecki and Mr. John Cappiello, the Media Relations Coordinator. They welcomed me with hugs and handshakes. They expressed their gratitude for the donation, and how much the patients were in need of donations like this. Check out the link below for Mr. Cappiello’s picture and description. In the coming months I plan to make donations to the Carl and Dorothy Bennett Cancer Center at Stamford Hospital and the Bendheim Cancer Center at Greenwich Hospital.
